A feeling. A frame. A story.

I'm Jimmy Logue, a director and cinematographer based in Canberra.

I came to directing through the camera and the edit suite, and I still shoot and cut a lot of my own work. Those years behind the lens and on the timeline taught me to think in frames and to be ready for the moment a scene turns. It's how I work on every shoot.

Most of what I make is documentary and branded content for government, business, community groups and NGOs. Every project starts in the same place for me: the people, the tone, and how you want an audience to feel when it ends. My feature documentary work about the Black Summer bushfires has picked up international awards, and those belong to the crews and contributors as much as to me.

Much of it is made through Crewcible Studio, the Canberra production company where I'm lead director and producer. I'm proud of what we've built together, and grateful every day to my business partners and our team, whose care and talent are in every frame we make.

A lot of the job is just listening. I really take the time to get to know the people in front of the camera and the people who commissioned me, so everyone feels comfortable and the story stays true to them. I like small, close crews who care about getting it right. I love working on cross-cultural projects, and I'm at home with the planning, schedules and management that come with government and corporate work, so that side of things runs smoothly.

I'm a member of the Australian Directors Guild and the Australian Cinematographers Society, and a lifelong film lover. I also run a YouTube channel with more than 200,000 subscribers with my friend Adam Ciaccia. It's a constant reality check on what actually keeps people watching, and I bring that to every client project.

How I can help

  • Direct

My main focus. Documentary and branded films shaped from the first conversation to the final cut, with people at the centre and room for the real story to come through.

  • Shoot

Cinematography for documentary and brand work on current digital cinema cameras, lenses and lighting, including gimbal and Steadicam, in the studio or on location.

  • Both

When a project suits it, I direct, shoot and cut it myself. A small crew and one consistent eye from the first frame to the final edit.

Toolkit

  • Digital cinema cameras, lenses and lighting
  • Gimbal and Steadicam
  • DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro and Avid
  • After Effects and Photoshop
